Owl

By now, I'm sure most of you have seen the crochet owl design by Jacquie over at  Bunny Mummy. I resisted for a while but, in the end, it was so cute I had to give it a go.

For those of you who like to know this kind of thing: the yarns were all from my stash. The purple and blue are King Cole Bamboo Cotton and were left over from the round cushion in the background (more details here). The pale green is Sublime Soya Cotton (Cucumber, 089) and the yellow is Rico Essentials Cotton (Banana, 063) - don't you just love yarn names!

And here he is! A really quick and easy project and Jacquie's instructions are very clear to follow. I went for the wingless option.

He's already made himself at home, hanging out with other feathered friends.

And I think one in particular has caught his eye!

Thank you all so much for your very kind comments about my bird quilt. I was quite overwhelmed with your enthusiasm. I need to be clear though that I can't take any credit for the design: as mentioned, it was copied from my photos of Elizabeth's quilt. I only wish I really was that talented!

While we're still on the subject of birds, do you remember the photo of the abandoned egg in my front garden? Well, there are two there now. I spotted a female duck disappearing under the bush while her mate stayed outside gently chunnering* to her/himself. After a while she emerged and they flew off. When I went out for a peek there was a freshly laid egg. Sadly there's been no sign of her since so no ducklings for us again. I can only think she's a first-time mum and doesn't realise she needs to sit on them to make them hatch.

* chunner is a lovely word meaning to mumble continuously
