Day 7 and a quiet day at home. After being out most of yesterday, I had housework and food shopping to catch up on. There was also the little matter of booking a short (UK) trip away :-) I'll tell you more about that another time.
Anyway, on to the challenge. When I signed up for 30 days wild, I had the idea of creating a crop circle on the lawn. After thinking about it more, I realised I'd probably have to do the cropping by hand which seemed too much of a faff. And so evolved the idea of creating polka dots instead. This way I can mow most of the lawn and just leave the circles.
Bye bye buttercups.
And hello to dots. They're not much to look at at the moment so I'll have to show you later in the month when the grass has grown longer. There are also other plants growing in the grass so it will be interesting to see how they develop.
The elephant in the clouds was definitely impressed and saluted as he drifted by.
I also picked up a pot of thyme at the supermarket to add to my herb collection. I'm hoping the bees will love it.
They're certainly loving the aubretia right now. This one had clearly been gorging itself as you can see the pouches full of nectar on its hind legs.
A couple of random shots of what else is flowering in the garden at the moment.
And last but not least, Chickpea and I went out this evening to try the kite again. The extra bit of breeze made all the difference and it took off with little effort.
Well, I made it through the first 7 days and have really enjoyed the challenge so far. The hardest part has probably been blogging every day so I might have to ease up on that and do a few compilations instead. I also have a couple of other posts to do aside from the challenge. I've loved the first week though the extra time I need to sort photos and blog can be a bit stressful! I think I can keep it up though... only three weeks left, haha!
ReplyDeleteI really love your lawn idea. I wish I could do that! Have you heard of the no mow zone campaign - the idea is to leave a square metre of lawn alone and see what grows. I think it's led by Plantlife but I could be wrong. I had a patch last year but as I live with my parents I have to negotiate anything I want to do in the garden and this year, Pa says no to the now mow zone as we've planted a wild flower / rougher patch near the pond and he says not mowing a bit of the lawn will look 'too untidy'! He did dig up some of the birdsfoot trefoil for me before he mowed the other day and transferred them to the wildflower area and today I persuaded him to let me raid the log pile and a build a log pile house for whatever creatures want to move in so it's not all bad! Sorry for rambling on, haha!

Oh, you've made such a great start! I ordered the pack and had the best intentions in the world but have only managed to join in (on instagram) a couple of times. But it has made me more aware and appreciative of the outdoors and I guess that's the point.

ReplyDeleteI read about your kite flying in your earlier post and thought that was fun, especially as it was quite windy here, especially on Saturday. I thought of you so glad you had another go. A lovely blue sky and a kite flying is a joyful sight. I'm intrigued to know more about your planned trip. Meanwhile, enjoy this week of going wild!

A polka dot lawn? That would be interesting to see. Haha! I’ll be sure to check again in a few weeks to see how it turns out. That being said, it seems that you have a lot of flowers in bloom at the moment. Quite a sight to greet you every morning, yes? Anyways, keep us posted!
